Experience shared with the poultry community.
Bart Pals traces his start in poultry to birds from his Aunt Viola and his first purebred chickens, a Murray McMurray Rare Breed Special from Roger Meyer. 4-H and the support of his family helped turn that beginning into a lifetime around exhibition poultry.
Bart has been involved in nearly every part of the hobby: showing, hosting and promoting shows, working with 4-H and becoming a licensed judge. He credits judges and exhibitors who helped educate him face to face and shaped the way he approaches the Standard, judging ethics and consistency.
Bart and Roger Meyer also helped pioneer the double-sanctioned poultry-show format through North Iowa. What began as two clubs holding shows together developed into the double-sanctioned format now familiar to exhibitors.
Looking back on nearly forty years of judging, Bart credits his family and a long list of breeders, exhibitors and judges for helping train his eye and build his career. His Education Series material centers on judging, the Standard of Perfection and helping exhibitors understand how and why birds are evaluated.
I can get you into a show to judge the first time, but the second time is up to you. — Dave Sherrill
